One would be hard pressed to think of an instrument or musical style that is not supported with depth and extreme competence at the Ames Music Studios. It is done with warmth, heart and passion fueled by a genuine common love of music. It has been at times sad to see wonderful instructors move on, but in each case the instructor's opportunity reflected what made them so special in the first place. Also in each case the new teachers have been just as wonderful but unique in their own strengths and background. Carly has been so happy with Tom and his guitar lessons at Ankeny Performing Arts. I can't imagine a better teacher for Carly's personality and the type of skills she hopes to acquire.
She's really "getting it" after 4 months and has been practicing regularly without reminders or nagging from me, which is a plus. Last night she played AND sang "Leaving on a Jet Plane" for us, which made me so proud. And a little envious, I might add. I may have to get myself into lessons.

The highlight of our summer was watching Dominik and his band, Spy Planet , perform at the Iowa School Of Rock concert.I was amazed at the way they mastered the songs with only two weeks of practice. This shouldn't have surprised me. All the band members are students of Al's.Dominik has taken drum lessons for a couple of years now.The lessons and recitals have given Dominik the confidence and ability to perform songs like Wipeout and Back in the USSR , on stage in front of a packed audience. ...If it wasn't for the encouragement and patience of my music mentor, Al Biela, I wouldn't have the enthusiasm toward music that I have today. What I like best about my lessons are that they keep me working on new things...My teacher is very knowledgable, easy going, and tolerant of "older" recreational students.
