About Us

Ames Music Studios was established in 1998 by Al Biela as a teaching and recording studio. We currently teach private and group lessons and classes, including the Iowa School of Rock.

We specialize in teaching all contemporary and classical styles of music on a variety of instruments including: piano/keyboard, guitar, bass guiatar, mandolin, drums, percussion, and woodwinds. Music instruction is available for all ages and levels of musicianship.

Providing quality music instruction tailored to meet your musical aspirations is our primary goal.


Meet the Director

Al Biela is a professional musician and music educator in Ames since 1992. For nearly two decades prior to settling in Ames, Al performed on a variety of instruments in regional and national acts and in original rock and jazz projects.

Since 1998, Al Biela has been the director of Ames Music Studios (AMS), a music instruction and recording studio in Ames. Hundreds of central Iowa students have gained knowledge and skills from basic to advanced in contemporary and classical music on a variety of instruments at AMS, including Improvisation, theory, and performance skills.

Al has directed the instrumental music worship teams of a local church, as well as composed, arranged, and performed contemporary worship music for choir and worship teams. He has recorded professional quality demos and CDs for large choral and instrumental groups, various small music ensembles, and solo artists.
